With the popularity of television shows like Man Shops Globe and Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations, it’s no wonder the globe-trotting style has made its way into home décor. And, why shouldn’t it? This style is about finding pieces that are authentic, reflect a multi-cultural flavor and look collected—a look that is defined by a sense of discovery.

To get the “collected” look, check out pieces that are either handcrafted or have the look of being handcrafted—we’re talking about a large wood coffee table or dresser that has nicks and cracks or gives the appearance of being hand carvedmarble or stone vessels that look like they came from a dig in ancient Rome,  furniture constructed from exotic woods or pillows lending to the feel of hand loomed fabric or bespoke blocking and stencils.

Incorporate patterned woven wool rugs or hides, collected accessories (meaning 3 or more of each item, preferably in various shapes and shades of one color-even pendant light fixtures) and repurposed wall art like a feathered headdress, vintage map or flag. One of the most important elements of the “well-traveled look” is the console or, if you have the space, an extra large coffee table to show-off your discoveries. These two tables provide the right platform to display your collections in a more effortless-looking way.  As an alternative, a bookcase or even an étagère will do. No matter what you use to display your collection, it will no doubt  show you as the true seasoned traveler you are…while in wait for your next big sojourn.
